HF Weather Fax Schedule & Frequencies: Atlantic

HF radiofax (weather fax) broadcasts for the North Atlantic and Europe: when each station transmits its weather charts, with frequencies, on the timelines of your cities and in your own time zone.

Radiofax is how ships far from shore still receive weather charts without satellite internet: a shortwave receiver and a laptop decode surface analyses, wind and wave forecasts and satellite pictures. This calendar covers the main European and North Atlantic services: the German Weather Service from Pinneberg near Hamburg, the UK Met Office and Royal Navy station at Northwood, NOAA Boston for the North Atlantic and NOAA New Orleans for the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, the Canadian Coast Guard at Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Athens, Murmansk and St Petersburg for the Mediterranean and northern waters.

Times are the transmission windows of the EiBi shortwave schedule, converted from UTC. For NOAA and DWD each window lists the charts it sends, with a link to the station’s schedule; Northwood transmits around the clock on frequencies that change with the time of day. Frequencies are the assigned ones: tune 1.9 kHz lower in USB.

Questions and answers

What are the DWD Pinneberg weather fax frequencies?

The German Weather Service (DWD) transmits radiofax from Pinneberg near Hamburg on 3855, 7880 and 13882.5 kHz, with charts for the North Atlantic, the North Sea, the Baltic and the Mediterranean through the day.

What are the NOAA Boston and New Orleans radiofax frequencies?

NOAA Boston (NMF) uses 4235, 6340.5, 9110 and 12750 kHz for the North Atlantic; New Orleans (NMG) uses 4317.9, 8503.9, 12789.9 and 17146.4 kHz for the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the tropical Atlantic.

How do I tune a weather fax frequency?

The frequencies listed are the assigned ones. Tune your receiver 1.9 kHz lower in USB (for example 7878.1 kHz for DWD on 7880 kHz) and decode with radiofax software such as fldigi.

Which charts does each transmission include?

For NOAA and DWD each transmission window on the timeline lists the charts it sends — surface analyses and forecasts, wind and wave charts, satellite pictures — with a link to the station’s full chart schedule.
