RFI Shortwave Frequencies & Schedule

The shortwave schedule of Radio France Internationale (RFI) on the timelines of your cities: every broadcast with its language, frequencies, target area and transmitter site, shown in your own time zone instead of UTC.

RFI's shortwave service today is built for Africa. French programs cover West, Central and East Africa in three blocks — a long morning block, a midday hour and the evening — while RFI's African-language desks broadcast in Hausa for Nigeria and Niger, in Fula (Fulfulde) and Mandenkan for the Sahel and West Africa, and in Swahili for East Africa, each several times a day. A weekly Vietnamese program for South East Asia is the only service outside Africa.

The African broadcasts go out from Issoudun in central France on several frequencies at once, so at least one of them gets through as propagation changes during the day. RFI, like every international broadcaster, publishes its schedule in UTC and changes frequencies twice a year, at the end of March and the end of October. This calendar follows the current season of the EiBi shortwave schedule and places every broadcast at its local time in each of your cities — handy when the target area, your city and UTC are three different clocks.

Questions and answers

Is RFI still on shortwave?

Yes, for Africa. RFI broadcasts in French to West, Central and East Africa every morning, at midday and every evening, and runs daily programs in Hausa, Fula (Fulfulde), Mandenkan and Swahili. A Vietnamese program for South East Asia airs on Sundays.

What are the RFI shortwave frequencies?

Each broadcast uses its own frequencies for its target area, mostly between 9 and 22 MHz, and they change at the end of March and the end of October. Select a broadcast on the timeline to see its frequencies in kHz.

Where does RFI transmit from?

The African services go out from the TDF transmitter site at Issoudun in central France; the Vietnamese program is relayed from Taiwan.

Can I listen to RFI shortwave online?

Each broadcast has a Listen live link that opens the University of Twente WebSDR, a receiver in the Netherlands, tuned to the broadcast frequency. Signals aimed at Africa are often weaker there.
